Bebop is a musical style of jazz that developed in the 1940s; chronologically it follows swing and precedes cool or West coast jazz, and hard bop. Its initiators were Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Max Roach, Bud Powell, and Thelonious Monk.
